Full disclosure that I have never created a million dollar online course myself, but…

I have helped many of my clients create theirs. A lot of them are 2 Comma Club Award Winners (One million have 2 commas), and are continuing to earn more from their digital assets. With their earning, they used it to further fuel their business and create the lifestyle they want.

You will figure out why I have not created mine later on in the article, but that does not make me any less qualified to talk about the results i generate for others,

For now, let’s discuss how one can earn a million dollar or more, from selling online courses.

Doing The Math To Get A Million Dollars

Earning a million dollars is all mathematics. If you want to make a million dollars online with digital courses, you have a lot of choices.

  • You can sell a $5 course to 200,000 people.
  • You can sell a $50 course to 20,000 people.
  • You can sell a $100 course to 10,000 people.
  • You can sell a $200 course to 5,000 people.
  • You can sell a $500 course to 2,000 people.
  • You can sell a $1,000 course to 1,000 people.
  • You can sell a $2,000 course to 500 people.

Just by understanding the mathematics behind million dollar courses, you are already ahead many other who are just getting started. Now think about all those online gurus/expert with large followings, selling their online courses at $2,000. They are easily multi millionaires.

I am sure some of you joined some of these courses before, and thought to yourself: “I already knew most of these” and they are charging me $2,000 for it, I should start my own online course.

Honestly, yes you should, and yes you can.

Pricing Your 7 Figure Online Course

How do we price our online course? Do we grab a random number from thin air?

Some digital marketer indeed does that, just to prove to you that pricing don’t really matter as long as you deliver value and the results that the student expects. The mantra to live by would be: “underpromise and overdeliver”

A better way of pricing your online course would be to estimate how much value you will be giving to your student, and use the 10x rule.

For example, if you are giving a web design course and this course will save/make the participant $5,000 or more, you would divide the value by 10 and price your course at $500.

When value exceed price, that when you get happy students, lesser complaints and lower refund rate.

How To Create A Million Dollar Online Course

Now that we got pricing out of the way.

Lets go through step by step on how you can create you own million dollar online course, using what you already know. I won’t teach you how to be an expert at something, that’s something you have to figure out yourself - either by reading books or you guessed it, going through some online courses.

If you are brand new to the online space and creating your online course, you can consider reading the Dot Com Secrets Book or join the One Funnel Away Challenge. Step 1: Decide On Your Topic Or Niche

The first thing you need to do is to understand your strengths, and figure out what you are good at. Everyone is good at something. As long as you are one step ahead that the rest, you know something that others don’t.

If you are having trouble finding out what you are good at, ask your friends around you. Or think of the instances where people reach out to you asking for your help. When a lot of your friends ask you to help them with same thing, there’s only one reason - you are good at it and you sub-consciously don’t admit it.

Every single day, people are searching Google and Youtube for a solution to a problem, that you already know to solve.

  • Dog Training? There’s an online course for that.
  • Baking? There’s many for that.
  • Knitting? Yep.
  • Web Design? Plenty.
  • Get Rich Quick? Disaster.

There’s always a demand for the skills you know, have a little faith in yourself.

Step 2: Record And Upload Your Online Course

Now this is the hard part, which is to record and upload your online course privately, to either Vimeo, Youtube or Wistia.

People like to overcomplicate this part, with just a webcam (or just your Iphone), you can create your online course. If you are doing tutorials, maybe you will need some additional screen sharing tools. Then again, there are free ones out there.

People always give excuses saying that they don’t look good enough, or don’t have a nice background like youtubers these day.

Trust me when I say that there are many of my clients just teaching their online courses with Zoom and a plain boring background, you have 0 excuses.

Step 3: Create Your Online Course Sales Page

After you created your online course, which will probably take months, you need to create a Sales Page for you to promote and for people to purchase your course.

For my clients, I always host my courses on Clickfunnels, because it is proven and fully integrated with any other platform you need in future. It also offer powerful features to Upsell/Downsell your customers.

It’s amazing really. The only thing that isn’t really amazing is the price tag… of $97 per month.

But if you are selling a course at $100, you just need 1 sale to cover your course. If you think about it this way, it’s not that bad after all.

That said, Sales Page is also something that you might need some help over, because it involved, emotional based selling, understanding your audiences pain and all the copywriting stuff.

This is where i will mention the One Funnel Challenge once again, the challenge is about creating sales funnel, and it teaches you everything you need to know. From creating your funnels to earning your first million dollars. I will highly recommend giving it a go.

Step 4: Create A Members Area For Your Online Course

Now that your sales page and payment system are all live, its time to create the backend of your funnel, which is to create the members area and upload all your course content. If you are using Clickfunnels like i told you to, this will once again be a breeze.

There are no shortage of tutorials online teaching you how to do that, so I am not going to cover those technical stuff in detail here.

Some people asked: “Can i use platforms like Udemy, Skillshare and Teachable?” All i can say to you is good luck earning a million dollars from Udemy and Skillshare.

As for teachable, it’s a great platform and i won’t stop you if you want to give it a go. However, when a software like Clickfunnels is already proven by many other experts, I don’t think using any other platform is worth the time.

Step 5: Scale With Youtube And Facebook Ads

Once everything is set up and configured, it’s time to fill your funnels! By filling your funnels, i mean getting traffic to your sales page, you can do it in many ways.

There’s always the free way and the paid way.

If you are already an influencer with a following, you can obviously just send an email blast to tell them about your course. This is the free way, and it works surprisingly well. If you want, you can also offer a discounted rate for a beta version of your course, this way you get feedback before sending it out to the public

If you are completely new, you might want to pick up some Facebook Ads and Youtube Ads skills, as it offers the finest targeting to reach your desired audience. This is also another beast that takes time to learn, but for one million dollars… why not?

Why You Will Never Earn A Million Dollars Selling Online Courses

That’s honestly all the steps you have to take to create a million dollar online course, and in this paragraph, I will tell you why you won’t make it, and why I didn’t either.

Pure Laziness & Procrastination.

The hardest part of creating an online course, the the course creation itself. With so many things to do every single day, are you willing to find time to record these content? Are you willing to put in months of work without seeing a single cent?

I know I am flooded with other commitments, and recording a course is in the roadmap, but not a current priority. If you are one of those rare breed who are willing to put in the work and hustle through, you will be rewarded.

How Do I Get Started?
